Testing Requirements

Below are the requirements for advancing to a new rank. Please note that all requirements are cumulative. Testings are held at the discretion of the instructor, usually every 3 months.

3. Self-Defense - Demonstrate two ways to defend a single hand shoulder grab.

2. Zenshinkotai
3. Self-Defense - Demonstrate how to get out of a single hand wrist grab and single hand shoulder grab with a counter move that immobilizes the attacker.
4. Breaking - 1 Hand, 1 Foot, 1 Flying or Jumping Technique

2. Nunchaku - Kihon Kata

4. Self-Defense - Demonstrate two ways to defend and counter a double lapel grab and one handed hair grab from the front.
5. Breaking - Side Kick (2 boards), Double Front Jump Kick, 1 Hand Technique

4th Kyu - Third Stripe Green
1. Seisan
2. Nunchaku - Kihon Kata Shodan
3. Ippon Kumite 3, 4
4. Self-Defense - Demonstrate and counter the following attacks and end each with a sweep: double hand choke from the front, 1 hand collar or hair grab from behind, bear hug with arms inside from behind, and a hook punch to the head.
5. Breaking - Side Kick (2 boards), Spinning Back Kick, 1 Hand Technique

3. Self-Defense - Student must make up own routine using one attacker with a minimum of five attacks.

5. Breaking - 1 Stationary Kick (2 boards), Spinning Back Hook Kick, Double Front Jump Kick, 2 Hand Techniques
6. 5 sets of combinations (5 different techniques in each set, with at least one technique in each set being a spinning or jump kick)

Nidan - Second Degree Black
1. Ro Hai Dai, Tenshin, Mugen, Bassai, Chinto

5. Self-Defense - Student must make up own routine using three attackers with a minimum of five attacks from each attacker. Must also demonstrate random self-defense.

Sandan - Third Degree Black
1. Sochin
2. Nunchaku - Yoshu Sho

7. Self-Defense - Student must make up own routine using three attackers with a minimum of five attacks from each attacker with 2 combinations of 2 people at the same time. Must also demonstrate random self-defense.
8. Breaking - 5 breaking techniques
Yondan - Fourth Degree Black
1. San Shi Ryu
2. Bo tai Bo
3. Bo tai Sai 6
4. Katana - Ryu-Ken
5. Self-Defense - Student must make up own routine using three attackers with a minimum of five attacks from each attacker with 1 combination of 3 people at the same time. Must also demonstrate random self-defense.
